God’s zoo

Marine scientists continue to find new species that were completely unknown until a few years ago or very recently. Here are a few more of the more amazing members of God’s underwater zoo:

The Yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta):

And how about this nemertean pelagonemertes rollestoni (the yellow, skeleton-like thing inside is his stomach):

The chionodraco hamatus, one of the Antarctic’s ice fish, which can withstand temperatures that freeze the blood of all other types of fish:

And finally, the Ceratonotus steiningeri, first discovered 5,400 meters deep in the Angola Basin in 2006:
