Tried to write another note to my congressman to encourage him to continue his opposition to the bailout. Here’s the message I received:

“The House of Representatives is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high amount of email traffic. The Write Your Representative function is therefore intermittently available. While we realize communicating to your Members of Congress is critical, we suggest attempting to do so at a later time, when demand is not so high. System engineers are working to resolve this issue and we appreciate your patience.”

Here’s why: “The servers hosting the Web sites of the House of Representatives and its members have been overwhelmed with millions of e-mails in the past few days, forcing administrators to implement the “digital version of a traffic cop” to handle the overload — for the first time ever.

“This is unprecedented,” said Jeff Ventura, communications director for the House’s chief administrator.

The tidal waves of e-mails and page views began over the weekend after negotiators announced Sunday that a deal had been reached on legislation to enact a $700 billion bailout of the country’s financial system.” (from CNN.com)

“If the entire global economy is so vulnerable that only the stalwart action of Barney Frank stands between it and ten years of soup kitchens, can it, in fact, be saved?”

Lou Dobbs speaks out on the “bailout”

Kiran Chetry, CNN anchor: What happens now?

Lou Dobbs, CNN host of “Lou Dobbs Tonight”: “Well, what happens now is that it sounds like the same fools who brought you this effort are going to try again.

Henry Paulson saying he’s going to come right back, suggests he’s not learning. And he’s not paying attention to the Congress. These Congress people are all at home in their home districts, nearly every one of them and they’re hearing an earful. The American people don’t want to hear this nonsense about $700 billion to bail out financial institutions. Frankly, Kiran, they don’t need it.

Economist after economist, with whom I’ve spoken, CEOs, they acknowledge that there are far better ways to deal with the issues confronting our financial system than this bailout. And it’s absolutely obscenely irresponsible of House Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi, Treasury Secretary [Henry] Paulson, President Bush, Sen. Harry Reid, the leader of the Senate; for these people to be clucking about like hysterical — so hysterically. It really must stop. . . .

To watch our political leaders, they have no idea in the world, Kiran, what they’re doing. Literally. And the arrogance with which this administration asks for, not only money, almost $1 trillion, and surely more in the months ahead. But the absolute power for Treasury Secretary Paulson. Give me a break. The American people want this stopped. Those Congressmen and women at home right now, in their districts, are getting an earful because this is an absurdity and it has to end.”

Lou, come on, tell us how you really feel.

Awrighty then

Oh man, I’ve been waiting to see how long it would take our friends at “Jesus-is-coming-any-second-now-and-you’re-not-going-to-be-ready” to come up with another date for the Lord’s return. I learned just a few minutes ago that my wait is over! Pastor Mark Blitz has found out the real, honest to goodness date and you can find it out too for only $39.95 (the 2 DVD set is now on sale for only $29.95 — but this info is a bargain at any price, no?). I assume Pastor Blitz will be donating all proceeds from his DVDs to needy skeptics and other worldlings so, I’d like to be the first to request consideration. Pastor Blitz, please call our office, we’ll be happy to relieve you of some of the filthy lucre you’re going to pull in from this project. After all, we’re going to need it. Fighting the Beast and the False Prophet aint going to be cheap!

(ok, I’m just kidding, you should probably just read Duane Garner’s new book — but if you still want to send us a couple of thousand that’d be fine too!)

[oh and a hat tip to Ty Seal for the heads up on this important information]
