“The truth is this: The march of Providence is so slow and our desires so impatient; the work of progress is so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are thus discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope.”
– R. E. Lee, in a letter to a friend, 1870

what a great and honorable man!
One of the things that initially convinced me that the South was right in the War of Northern Aggression was the Christian faith of men like Robert E. Lee and Thomas Jonathan Jackson in contrast to the agnosticism and intemperance of men like Sherman the Grand Arsonist of Georgia and Grant.
The contrast between Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln is also worthy of note.

Great quote. It goes along with what Rushdoony says in his history lectures. Only Christians are able to see the importance of history.
Thanks, brother. That is my favorite non- biblical quotation. I remember when I first heard it – @ the Christian Liberty Academy w/v conference, a long time ago , when we were much younger!
