I continue to get inquiries asking if I think we’re living in the “last days” (because of all the shenanigans being pulled by Obama and friends). My answer is very profound and thoughtful. I usually say, “nope.” But Mark Horne has taken the trouble to spell out in a brief space, why I say this. Go here and see for yourself. Short, to the point, clear, excellent. That’s what my “nope” means. Thanks Mark.

THE AVENUE- The shacking up delusion June 5, 2013Jonathan Last in his book What to Expect When No One is Expecting points out some sobering statistics to those couples who think it is better to live together instead of getting married (or before getting married). Over the last half-century, nothing has grown in popularity more than couples living together outside of marriage. Last […]
- The grace of God in baptism May 31, 2013The apostles say some amazing things about baptism. By it, Paul says, we are united to Christ (1 Cor. 12:13; Rom. 6:2; Gal. 3:27) in His death, burial, and resurrection (Rom. 6:1-6). Thus, Peter says, “baptism now saves us” (1 Pet. 3:21). And Paul follows by saying that being washed in baptism brings us new […]

I read Mark Horne’s article about Jesus’ future and I thought he summed up his whole argument very well in his last sentence. It seems to me that the church as a whole does not grasp the truth of what Mark is saying.
When it comes to the Great Commission most Christians take Jesus’ words about “discipling the nations” to mean that we are to preach that “Jesus saves” to all the nations and they never take it any further than that. They’ve been taught that this is what discipling is–preaching salvation. They fail to see the next logical step for the church is to begin to affect the entire culture around them. “Jesus saves” is the first step but there are a lot more steps to come after that Bad theology in the past 150 years has ensured that Christians hardly ever go beyond that first step.
